What we offer under the Green Social Prescribing project

Woodcraft for Wellbeing

Woodcraft for Wellbeing is a 6-week nature-based Mindfulness and Wellbeing Programme delivered outdoors. The programme is created and licensed by The Therapeutic Forest CIC under the Prescription for Wellbeing programme and conducted by licensed practitioners.

What to expect

Providing Mental Health and Wellbeing strategies are a key part of the Woodcraft for Wellbeing programme. Strategies are delivered at the start of each session and by the end of the programme, participants will have a toolbox of coping strategies to support their everyday life. These coping strategies compliment a range of mindful activities that have been designed to provide appropriate challenge, yet also the opportunity to focus in on one task and simply be in the moment.

Some examples of the outdoor mindful activities to reconnect with nature include.

• Cordage making
• Whittling
• Using Kelly Kettles
• Making natural tea’s
• Simple lashings
• Nature Mandala’s
• Willow woodcraft
• Muscle relaxation

What are the benefits

To be ‘in the moment’ is what is known as ‘mindfulness’ and regular participation in mindful activities can help relieve stress, lower blood pressure, reduce chronic pain, improve sleep, and alleviate gastrointestinal difficulties. Mindfulness improves mental wellbeing.

Ecotherapy

Ecotherapy comes in many forms, some of which include forest bathing, outdoor mindfulness, spiritual practices outdoors, gardening, conservation work, and creative therapies in the outdoors.

Forest Bathing

The simple method of being calm and quiet amongst the trees, observing nature around you whilst learning breathing techniques for relaxation can help both adults and children de-stress and boost health and well-being in a natural way.

Gardening

Aimed at adults who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, or isolation. Therapeutic gardening sessions help people benefit from being active outdoors, reconnect with nature and learn new skills planting and growing in a friendly supportive environment. Join us at our community growing project based in Intake, Doncaster.

Complementary therapies

Spiritual healing, Reiki, meditation, crystal healing, visualisation and colour therapy workshops are available outdoors with our Reiki master and qualified well-being practitioner.

What are the benefits

Ecotherapy improves mental wellbeing, helps people to become more physically active and helps people who are lonely or socially isolated to broaden their networks.
Exposure to nature through Ecotherapy not only makes you feel better emotionally, but it also contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.
